What is it?
Made from ground chickpeas. Also known as garbanzo flour, gram flour, channa flour and besan. Used mostly in Spanish, French, Turkish, Italian and Indian cooking. It is a pale yellow colour with a wonderful earthy, nutty flavour. Great for making savoury snacks!
What are the nutritional benefits?
It is a high fibre food and a rich source of protein and carbohydrates. Chickpeas also provide ample amounts of polyphenols, many of which are potent antioxidants. These help to lower cholesterol naturally.
Where can I use it?
Used to make pakoras, bhajis and pancakes in Indian food. Makes delicious crackers, fritters, onion rings and flatbreads. Can be used as an egg replacement in vegan cooking when mixed with water.
